THE IMAGINARY GARDEN
The Imaginary Garden began as a conversation about possibility.
Inspired by time spent imagining impossible flowers, unexpected colors, and gardens that exist only in the mind, the painting embraces wonder, curiosity, and play. Unlike other works in A Series in Flowers that lean toward reflection and ambiguity, this piece moves toward imagination and optimism.
Flowers tumble and unfold across the canvas with a sense of freedom, unconcerned with realism or expectation. The painting celebrates the creative act itself: the ability to envision something that does not yet exist and bring it into being. The garden becomes a place where memory, invention, hope, and delight coexist.
Created in dialogue with the artist's son, the work carries a sense of openness and joy. It reflects the way children engage with the world before limitations are imposed, when possibilities feel endless and imagination becomes its own form of truth.
Within the series, The Imaginary Garden serves as a counterbalance to themes of grief and self-doubt. It is a reminder that taking up space can be playful, expansive, and filled with wonder. The painting invites viewers to reconnect with curiosity and to imagine what might grow when possibility is given room to flourish.
