About Erin Smith Contemporary Painter
Working in large-scale oil paintings, she uses flowers as a metaphor for identity, memory, grief, beauty, and transformation. Her work explores the space between what is seen and what is felt, creating images that remain intentionally open to interpretation.
Drawing from a background in photography and her work as a pediatric nurse practitioner specializing in children's mental health, Smith is interested in resilience, emotional complexity, and the stories people carry beneath the surface. Through layered color, visible brushwork, and monumental scale, she creates paintings that invite viewers to slow down, reflect, and find their own meaning.
Her ongoing body of work, A Series in Flowers, examines self-perception, ambiguity, and the freedom of taking up space. What begins as a bouquet becomes a meditation on becoming.
Smith's paintings are rooted in the belief that beauty and vulnerability can coexist. While her work is informed by personal experience, she leaves space for viewers to bring their own stories to the painting and discover what resonates.
She is still finding her way and place in the world. One day at a time. Some days, half a day at a time.
